What is the Scarlet Leather?

The Scarlet Leather is a quarterly newsletter published by NELA for the leather/SM communities. We currently have a readership of about 1000 through out the New England Area. The Scarlet Leather combines information about events and the leather scene in New England with how-to articles, essays, stories, and poetry.

How can I submit to the Scarlet Leather?

If you are a writer, artist, or other creative type, contact us!  We are seeking contributions now for future issues. Specifically, we are looking for:

• Short Informative Articles on how-to, legal issues, news events
  • From 200 to 700 words, pays $15.
  • From 700 to 1000 words, pays $25.
• Short stories, prose, or thoughtful essays on BDSM (we generally are not looking for graphic erotic fiction or pornography, but positive portrayals of BDSM, relationships, and the leather community instead.  No explicit sex, please.)
  • From 700 to 1000 words, pays $25.
• Poems (no epics please) on BDSM, pay $10.
• Book reviews, 500 to 750 words, pay $10.
• Photos with model releases, pay $10. Releases must be supplied at the time of submission. (No frontal or genital nudity please.)
• Cartoons, spot art, puzzles, pay $10. (No explicit sex, please.)

Please submit all selections via e-mail to production@NELAonline.org. Include your e-mail address, name, pseudonym (if any) and an address where we can mail a paper contract (and your check) if your piece is accepted. We are buying North American One-time Rights for print publication and when possible, the right to include the piece in our newsletter archive on our web site. We will sometimes buy reprints of articles that have previously appeared for a different audience. Any artwork or photos submitted will not be returned unless accompanied by return postage.

How To Submit Ads

Payment must accompany ad copy. Ads may be submitted in hardcopy--we will then scan them in to be reproduced in the magazine. Ads that are submitted on disk should be TIFF, GIF, PSD, or JPEG files. Ads submitted on disk must come with a hardcopy proof. Ads may also be emailed as attachments to production@NELAonline.org
